There are some houses on acreage in Meringa but most of the suburbs area is taken up with sugar cane farms. Most of the houses in Meringa are modern, usually low set and of concrete masonry block construction.

The Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations is just to the east of the Bruce Highway at Meringa.
