Clifton Beach - for tourists and localsFor Clifton Beach real estate contact us. Clifton Beach is about 20 minutes north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway. This is a relaxed seaside suburb with plenty of modern accommodation. It has a wide spread of housing types but mostly more modern. There are shops, service station, caravan park and lots of parks. Clifton Beach is located on both sides of the Captain Cook Highway, about 20 kilometres north of Cairns. To the east is a beach resort, houses and tourist accommodation and to the west is the suburb itself with some larger residential lots. Clifton Beach is an established residential suburb, although along the beach is more tourism focused. Until recently Bransford's Shopping Village was Clifton Beach's most prominent shopping centre. The shopping village has a fish and chip shop, Mini Mart, Bait and Tackle and a chemist. Now compleed is the Clifton Shopping Village with Woolworths and specialty shops. There is also a service station in Clifton Beach. This area is serviced by Sun Bus, which gives good access to Wild World ( the local zoo) and the Opal Mine a museum about historical opal mines in the Far North Queensland. They have a personalised tour through a simulated mine, opal jewelery and pearls and speak many languages. Places to spend time in Clifton Beach are the community centre and the beach, which has a stinger resistant enclosure. There are also playgrounds and an environmental reserve and picnic facilities. The main tourist attractions in Clifton Beach are Wild World, The Opal Mine and the Beach. The popular Wild World is here where locals and tourists can stroll through the park, feed the friendly animals or watch the staff feed the not so friendly ones. The Opal Mine is close by.
