Why do we do it?
Advances in technology over the past few years have been amazing. Progressive tech savvy companies have taken advantage of this new way of doing business and some of the most highly successful businesses in the world didn't even exist 20 years ago. eg ebay, google and many others.

About 25 years ago real estate agents had a much more difficult job to do than now.
Most offices didn't have faxes, computers (certainly not laptops), PDA's or mobile phones. Everything had to be posted (urgent or important items hand delivered), salespeople spent hours (sometimes weeks) driving around showing properties to prospective purchers. Often a stop was necessary at a phone booth to call the office for messages.
Information availability was clumsy and usually not available to the general public. Sales data arrived from the government in huge pages of data printout which had to be waded through to find relevant information. Town planning data required a large folder and lots of study to check for the possibility of development approval and there are many other examples to the large amount of time consumed per sale. The commission was certainly earned.
